Terms of Use · draft for legal review

The fine print, in plain English.

The short version: Food.FM gives general information, not medical advice, so always read the package. Scores are our opinion, worked out with a formula anyone can read. Food.FM Plus is a yearly Google Play subscription you can cancel anytime.

These terms

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Coework LLC (“Coework”, “we” or “us”), the company that makes Food.FM. They cover the Food.FM website at food.fm and the Food.FM app for Android (together, “Food.FM”).

By using Food.FM you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Food.FM. Food.FM has no accounts, so these terms apply whenever you use it.

Who can use Food.FM

Not medical advice

Food.FM provides general nutrition information. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat or prevent any disease. It is not a substitute for advice from a doctor, dietitian or other qualified professional.

Allergy and ingredient alerts rely on the ingredient and allergen information available to us, which can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and recipes change. A product without an alert is not confirmed safe for you. If you have an allergy or a medical condition, always read the package and follow your clinician’s guidance. If you think you’re having a severe allergic reaction or another medical emergency, call 911.

The health goals, eating styles and energy target in your profile only adjust how Food.FM scores and sorts products on your phone. They are not a diet plan or a medical recommendation.

Scores are our opinion

Every Food.FM score, additive rating and swap suggestion is Food.FM’s opinion, worked out with a published formula from the product data available to us. The full formula is on the methodology page, and the app shows each product’s own calculation under “Show the math”.

A score is not a statement of fact about a product’s safety, quality or legal compliance. A product can score low and still be lawful, safe and a reasonable choice for many people. Additive ratings describe our reading of the scientific evidence at typical intakes, which is a separate question from whether regulators permit the additive.

No one can pay to change a product’s score or its place in swaps. With Food.FM Plus, personal scores are adjusted on your phone for your own profile; the general Food.FM score is the same for everyone.

Where the information comes from

Product data, including ingredients, nutrition facts, allergens and photos, comes mostly from Open Food Facts, a free, community-built database available under the Open Database License. Recall checks use U.S. FDA enforcement reports from openFDA, and some serving sizes come from USDA FoodData Central.

We don’t check every product ourselves. Information may be missing, out of date or wrong, and manufacturers change recipes and packaging. The package in your hand is the most reliable source.

Found a mistake? You can correct product data on Open Food Facts, or email us at support@coework.com. Brands and manufacturers, see For brands.

Food.FM Plus

Food.FM Plus is an optional yearly subscription, sold through Google Play in the Food.FM app for Android.

What you get

Personal scores, allergy and ingredient alerts, and more label reads each day, as described on the Food.FM Plus screen in the app. Every price includes the same features. Choosing a higher price is a way to support Food.FM; it doesn’t buy anything extra.

Price and payment

The prices, in US dollars, are shown in the app and on Google Play’s confirmation screen before you pay. Google Play charges your payment method when you confirm, and taxes may apply. Google Play processes the payment under its own terms; we never see your card details.

Automatic renewal

Your subscription renews automatically every year, and Google Play charges the price then in effect, until you cancel. If we change the price, Google Play will tell you before the new price applies, following its rules, and you can cancel before then.

Cancelling

Cancel anytime in the Google Play Store app under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Uninstalling Food.FM does not cancel your subscription. After you cancel, Plus keeps working until the end of the year you’ve paid for, and then it stops.

Refunds

Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are not refundable, and there are no refunds or credits for part of a year. You can ask Google Play for a refund under its refund policy. If something went wrong, email us at support@coework.com; we may give a refund at our discretion.

Where Plus works

Plus is linked to the Google account you bought it with, and it works in the Food.FM app on Android devices signed in to that account. Because Food.FM has no accounts, we can’t move a subscription to another Google account or another platform.

Daily limits and changes

Label reads have a daily limit, even with Plus, because each read has a real cost. Limits and features may change over time, and the app always shows the current ones. If we make a change that significantly reduces what Plus includes, we’ll tell you in the app, and you can cancel.

Using Food.FM fairly

Please don’t:

We may limit, suspend or block access for anyone who breaks these rules.

Our name and content

Food.FM’s software, design, text and graphics belong to Coework LLC and are protected by law. FOOD.FM™ and the Food.FM logo are trademarks of Coework LLC.

We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use Food.FM under these terms. You’re welcome to share a link to a product or a screenshot of its score for personal, non-commercial purposes.

Product data from Open Food Facts stays available under the Open Database License, and these terms don’t limit any rights you have under it.

If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

Other services

Food.FM relies on services run by others, including Google Play, Google Firebase and Gemini, Open Food Facts, openFDA and USDA FoodData Central. Their own terms and policies apply when you use them, and we aren’t responsible for their content, availability or practices. Links to other websites are for convenience; we don’t control those sites.

Our Privacy policy explains what Food.FM keeps on your phone, what it sends and to whom.

Changes to Food.FM

We may change, add or remove features, and we may suspend or end Food.FM at any time. If we end Food.FM Plus while you have a paid subscription, we’ll refund the unused part of your current year.

Food.FM may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance or when a service it depends on is down.

Disclaimers

Food.FM is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, Coework disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement and accuracy. We don’t promise that Food.FM or its information will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free, or that any product is safe for you to eat.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Coework and its members, employees and suppliers won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from or related to Food.FM or these terms, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims related to Food.FM is limited to the greater of what you paid for Food.FM Plus in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.

Some states don’t allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.

If you use Food.FM in a way that breaks these terms or the law, and that leads to a claim against Coework, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please email us at support@coework.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally.

Any dispute will be decided in the state or federal courts located in Hartford County, Connecticut, and you and we agree to those courts’ jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.

Updates to these terms

We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version on this page with a new date, and for significant changes we’ll also tell you in the app. Changes apply from the date they’re posted, and if you keep using Food.FM after that, you accept them. A dispute that arose before a change is governed by the terms in effect at the time.

These terms and our Privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Food.FM. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t given it up. You may not transfer these terms; we may transfer them to a company that takes over Food.FM. Parts that by their nature should continue after you stop using Food.FM, such as scores as opinion, the disclaimers, the limits on liability and governing law, will continue.
