For brands and manufacturers
How Food.FM rates your products.
Every score comes from a published formula and public product data. No one can pay to change it, and we fix what’s wrong.
How a score is calculated
Each product gets an open 0–100 score: nutrition (up to 50 points), processing level (up to 30) and additives (up to 20). The methodology page publishes the full formula, every threshold and the evidence behind each additive rating. In the app, every product shows its own calculation under “Show the math”.
Additive ratings describe the weight of scientific evidence at typical intakes. Each entry states its basis and its regulatory status, because being permitted and being rated are separate questions.
Where the product data comes from
- Ingredients, nutrition facts and allergens: Open Food Facts, a free, community-built database. Food.FM reads it live, so a correction there reaches Food.FM the next time the product is scanned.
- Recalls: U.S. FDA enforcement reports, via openFDA.
- Cup sizes: USDA FoodData Central, when Open Food Facts gives a serving in grams only.
If something is wrong
- Product data (ingredients, nutrition, photos): correct it on Open Food Facts by searching for your barcode. Producers can also upload their data through Open Food Facts’ free platform for producers.
- A rating, the evidence behind it, or the formula: email support@coework.com with the barcode, what you believe is wrong, and your supporting evidence. We read every message and correct errors we confirm. Changes to the formula or to an additive’s rating are published on the methodology page.
Independence
Food.FM doesn’t run ads and doesn’t accept payment from food brands. No one can pay to change a product’s score or its place in swaps.
Scores are general guidance, not medical advice.
